The Allaire DuPont Distaff is an American Thoroughbred horse race run annually at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, Maryland. A Grade II event run in mid May, it is open to fillies and mares age three and older. It is contested on dirt at a distance of 11/16 miles (8.5 furlongs).
Formerly known as the "Pimlico Breeders' Cup Distaff Handicap"/"Pimlico Distaff", it was renamed the "Allaire duPont Breeders' Cup Distaff Stakes" in 2006 in honor of the late Maryland horsewoman and owner of the great Kelso, Allaire duPont. The race was first awarded graded status in 1994 and then the race was upgraded from a Grade III to a Grade II event in 2007.[1]
From 1992 through 2001, the race was contested at 1⅛ miles (9 furlongs). The race was run in late June for its first three years. Then it was moved to the Preakness undercard beginning in 1995.[1]
In 2010 the race was put on hiatus due to a shortage of purse money. [1]
